SYMPOSIUM:
LETTING IT ALL HANG OUT - PRIVACY VS. IN THE VIRTUAL WORLD
Film Base, 10 - 11.30 am
For a new generation of 'digital natives' privacy is no longer a requirement. Web 2.0 has brought with it a transformation in how we view the need for privacy and engage with the public realm - but at what cost? The discussion will be prefaced by a keynote address from Daniel J. Solove, Associate Professor of law at the George Washington University Law School, and the author of The Digital Person: Technology and Privacy In The Information Age. Chaired by solicitor and digital rights expert Caroline Campbell, the panel also features journalist Jim Carroll, Hotline.ie director Cormac Callanan, Relevant Media owner Niall Larkin and Irish blogging guru Damien Mulley.
Symposium:

All these concepts will be analysed, discussed and explained and given context for the creative community and general public alike. Chaired by Anton Mannering (Digital Media Forum), participants will include Bill McDaniel (DERI, Galway) Chris Howard (Head of 3D Internet, IBM) and Joe Dromgoole (Put Place).

THIS IS THE HOUR: NOT JUST ANOTHER LOW-BUDGET FILMAKING SYMPOSIUM
The Light House, 2 pm
Darklight are delighted to welcome Warp X head honcho Barry Ryan to the festival as part of our Warp strand; Warp X posits a new model for the British Film Industry - a sustainable digital studio driven by creative talent and a dynamic business model that rewards everyone involved in the films. With budgets available for independent film steadily decreasing, what better time to get together and talk about the agonies and ecstasies of low budget? Participants will include Darklight Director Nicky Gogan (Still Films), Irish Film Board Production Executive Alan Maher, documentary filmmaker and Vice Films founder Eddy Moretti (TBC) and Barry Ryan (Head Of Production, Warp X).
SYMPOSIUM:
DECODING ONLINE FILMMAKING: FROM WEBISODES TO VIRAL MARKETING
The Light House, 4 pm
Online filmmaking is continually changing, with recent successful projects such as Sofia's Diary and KateModern proving major hits; at the other end of the spectrum we have online viral marketing, a phenomenon that (according to Wikepedia) 'facilitates and encourages people to pass along a marketing message voluntarily.' It's the holy grail for twenty-first century media.
Chaired by Steve McCormack (Wildwave), the panel will seek to discuss what works - and what doesn't - iin the online filmmaking arena, and what's coming next... Panelists include Sofia's Diary producer Triona Campbell, Bebo Ireland Head Of Sales Philip McCartney, Darklight viral guru Fionn Kidney (Strategem) and Irish internet phenomenon Sophie Merry (Bandy Toaster).
NB: This symposium will be followed by the World Premiere screening of the IFB/Wildlight Virtual Cinema short films, along with a reception and networking session.
